  • Please bring your acceptable devices to class today!

  • Read to...

  • Today students will be introduced to their Final Project for our Poetry Unit. The project has two components to it. The first is an analysis of a song. Students will be provided with a variety of songs to choose from. They will need to choose one and analyze it using the TPDAT strategy. The analysis portion of this project will be completed through Google Classroom! The second part of the project is for students to create a visual component! Students will consider the mood/tone of the song they chose, and they will need to produce a collage that matches that tone!

  • Students will be provided with the handout/instructions for this assignment through Google Classroom. The collage will be the only piece of the project that is handed in separately from the Google Classroom document!

  • Students will have today's double period to work on the analysis portion of their project. If they finish the analysis portion before the end of the day, they will need to start considering their collage. What types of colours will you try and find? What sort of images could you include to help visually represent the mood of the song you chose?

  • Students should be completed the analysis portion of their final project by the end of today's double period. If it is not completed by the end of class today, it is now for homework, and must be completed and submitted onto Google Classroom by Monday November 25th at 3:00pm.

Thursday

  • Final Project - Collage Work Period

  • Students should have the analysis done for the song of their choosing. Now, they must use the materials provided to them in order to create their collages! Guidelines will be put on the board for students to refer back to during their work time.

  • Collages should be completed at the end of this double period!

Friday

  • For today's class students will share their collages with the class. Instead of having students write a description of their collages, they will just have to give a brief explanation verbally to the class! For this oral component of the collage, students will need to explain why they chose the colours and images that they did and why they thought these elements would accurately match the tone of their song!

  • Begin poetry!!!

  • For today's class we will do a fun activity related to poetry that gets students interested and engaged in the discovery process!

  • Structure of the Activity:

  • Students will all be given a slip of paper that has a random line or word from a pre-selected poem. Then, students will stand up, walk around the room to their peers, and they will have to read aloud what their word or line says. The trick is to only say what is on your slip of paper. Once you have read your word or line aloud and listened to the other person's word or line, you must then go up to the next person and continue sharing. This process will continue for approximately 5 minutes!

  • Then students will be split into groups and given a large piece of paper where they can write their predictions down. They must consider what they read aloud and what they heard from their peers in order to make an inference about what the poem is saying and what it means.

  • Once students have had time to work in their groups, we will have a class discussion about the poem and get student perspectives on it. Then I will reveal the complete poem to the students and we will see if we were on the right track or if we were completely off!
